Fisher Barton Group

A Partnership that Works!

Corporate History

Original Fisher Barton Plant

Founded in 1973 in Watertown, Wisconsin as a lawn mower blade manufacturer with one facility and 5 employees, Fisher-Barton quickly became a premier supplier of blades to lawn and garden OEM’s heavily concentrated in the Midwest and now throughout North America and Europe.

Opportunity led to the acquisition of Accurate Specialties, Inc., in 1988. With 40 years of industry service, Accurate Specialties is North America’s leading manufacturer of cast bronze gear materials, using the same success model as Fisher-Barton.

Agricultural applications led to the creation of Fisher-Barton Specialty Products in 1993. In addition to lawn mower blades, our product mix expanded to hedge clipper blades, tiller tines, bedknives, drawbars, clutch discs, heat-treated weldments, and a variety of agricultural knives and blades.

As our customers from various industries demanded better product performance, Fisher-Barton responded. We took a leading position in the development of coatings to improve wear characteristics. This led Fisher-Barton to sponsor a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate research study in thermal spray applications in 1986 to explore an idea to use coatings to make lawn mower blades last longer through wear-resistant coatings. In 1988, a Technology Transfer grant for collaboration research with Sandia National Laboratories was awarded and in 1990, Fisher-Barton set up its first, in-house thermal spray system.

Thermal Spray Technologies (TST) was incorporated in 1993 and, in 1994, built and moved to its current facility in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Offering application specific coatings with parameters carefully researched and developed, TST is the industry leader in expert surface engineering.

Again in response to customer needs and industry growth in the Southeast, Fisher-Barton expanded operations to South Carolina in 1995 to serve the automotive and custom stamping industries in addition to lawn and garden.
